Approach
Central to my counseling philosophy is the recognition that a healthy relationship with ourselves is key in forming satisfying connections with people and events in our lives. My clients age, developmental and life stage along with personal issues to be resolved determine the course of treatment.
I utilize a variety of techniques and modalities in my committment to offer services that are uniquely tailored to serve my clients. These include creative self expression, education, relaxation and stress reduction techniques and listening and communication skills. I encourage my clients to recognize and work from their own self awareness and strength, while I assist them in discovering and uncovering the tools to navigate new directions in their lives. I am always honored and inspired to witness intentional growth and enhanced well-being as a result of counseling work.
Client Painting
I have been most fascinated by the recent scientific advances allowing us greater understanding of brain functioning, sensory system regeneration and the biochemistry of human emotions. My professional office includes an Art Studio and a fully equipped Restorative Yoga Studio along with a comfortable sitting area for talking. Utilizing an environment that supports this integrative and holistic approach, my clients recruit the many resources of the body and the mind to change behavior, enhance insight and solve problems.
Creative, Body-Centered Therapy
What is creative, body centered therapy? Our body state is a reflection of our thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. The way we live in our bodies can determine much of how we feel and how we cope with life’s inevitable struggles. In addition to sharing your situation and what you want to change in your life, I assist you in attending to ways you are carrying undesirable moods, memories and stresses in your body. Together we can identify and practice new skills to shift thinking, support deep relaxation and improve mood and sleep.
I can also help you to utilize your own creative energy for greater self awareness and problem solving. Creative and expressive therapy is not focused on artistic skill or talent. It is a method of using art media (pencils, paints, sculptural materials) to access unconscious information that can be difficult to express in words.
What is Restorative Yoga? Restorative Yoga is an approach to Yoga practice in which many different supports or props (blankets, pillows, bolsters, weighted bags) are used to assist you in releasing tensions in muscles and joints while practicing gentle Yoga poses. Poses are modified and tailored to your body so everyone can practice without worry of being flexible enough. It is very beneficial in healing from injuries and has a strong focus on relaxed breathing. I teach private classes of 3-4 people.
I have been in professional practice since 1990 and have used these healing modalities with people of all ages. Families, adults and couples are invited to call me for an appointment at my Vancouver office.
I am honored to serve you!
